Biography

Joaquin Sales was born in Tortosa, Spain in 1970 but has lived most of his life in Vinarós, a town north of Castellón. Having been born near the sea, he has always been fascinated by the sea, the warmth of the sun, and the landscapes of the Castellón area. He has always been attracted by drawing from a very young age and later by painting. He has been fascinated by the light of objects, the geometric and natural shapes of plants and animals. He is especially attracted to horses since childhood and drawing them is a wonderful experience. Although he graduated in Industrial Design Engineering in Castellón, and therefore dominates the geometry completely, he wanted to break with these rectilinear forms and not give them all the prominence in his career as an artist as we can appreciate in some of his works. He feels that the objects give off an aura or energy that the photograph can not capture. The movement, the energy, the sensations and internal expressions, is what his works transmit and for that reason he tries to capture that moment. He is especially attracted to abstract art and the masters of cubism of the early twentieth century, and Scandinavian expressionism and many of his works have that influence. Joaquin also loves the three-dimensional artistic design and from recycled material composes abstract or figurative plastic works based on cardboard, metal, wood or especially clay, since modeling, either with his hands or with the computer is one of his great passions . While he worked as a designer in several metal workshops in Castellón he dedicated himself to learn painting in private classes with teachers and learned pictorial expression as a means of expression and opinion. He has made many visits to Spanish museums in Barcelona and also some collective exhibition with the local art school in his city and has exhibited some paintings. For him painting is like writing a story, it is offering the point of view of the artist but not objectively if not as a key so that the observer can open the door of his imagination. Outside of current fashions it does not want to be classified in the tendencies that sell at the moment since it would create a commitment that would cut the freedom of its creation process He currently lives in Vinarós, Castellón, where he develops his work and prepares his next exhibition.
